No edit ability on forums on my other computer
« on: April 01, 2021, 04:50:06 PM »

OK, I have two windows10 machines with Chrome browser.  This on allows me to add to forums and reply.  The other machine does NOT display the "new topic or reply" to existing topics... All I can do is read forums, no input capability.

How come?

Of course I am logged in on both computers.  They are both on WIndows 10 fully updated.

I sometimes lose the automatic sign in when Win10 does a update. I have to re-enter the info, save it, and it works fine again till it doesn't.

Hi Greg (KB7TT):

No worries.  The solution is to clear all cookies and the browsing buffer, in Chrome.  You'll need to go to Settings -> Privacy and security -> Clear browsing data.

You'll find that your ability to post and the "Show unread posts" ...etc. banners at the top of the forums page reappear.  Unfortunately, automatic site access is lost as well until you sign in again to each site that requires a cookie for this to work.  But this fix to a very annoying problem consistently works.

It appears to a Chrome-specific problem and happens both on Windows 10 and Android when running Chrome.  I haven't had the same problem (yet) when using FireFox as a browser.

Please let me know if this fixes YOUR problem.

Best Regards,

Brian - K6BRN

I had a similar problem a couple of days ago - no "REPLY" capability.  I finally logged out (even though I WAS logged in), then logged in again.  The problem went away and the "REPLY" item reappeared.  I am running the Chrome browser with Windows 10 2004.  It was a simple enough fix, even if it didn't make sense!

I've had the same problem several times.  As N8GD says, I just log out of eHam and back in and that has fixed it every time thus far.  And, no, it doesn't make any sense.

I don't think it is unique to Chrome.  I'm running Firefox,
and had a similar problem:  it said I was logged in, but
didn't act like it.

Log out, log back in, and the problem goes away.

Hmmph!  That makes sense.  Clearing cookies does exactly that - it erases automatic login credentials for the site, effectively logging a user out.  Excellent!

Just need to log out and back in, manually.
