KPC-3+ Powered Through DB-9 Connector
« on: April 02, 2021, 08:29:10 AM »

I've built/installed/operated several of the TinyTrak series of APRS trackers and configured them to be powered through their DB-9 connector.  Has anyone figured out a way to do the same with a KPC-3+?  I know the 3/3+ can be run with an internal 9vdc battery, but I'm looking to minimize cables at a new digipeater site.

Yes, pin 7 of the DB-9 can be used to power the KPC-3+.  Ground is pin 6.  There are some jumpers that you'll have to set to accomplish this since that pin has multiple uses.  From the manual:
"To power the KPC-3 Plus from Pin 7 of the DB-9 connector, you must connect J7 center pin and pin 2, [and] J6 center pin and pin 2."

Thanks for the point out.  Had to really dig to find it.

The use of pin 7 & 6 is the same as the Byonics TinyTraker.  I have a couple of DB-9/power cables from my 'TinyTrak era'.  Again, thanks for the point out.
