ISO H/T Headset Recommendations
« on: April 06, 2021, 05:24:54 PM »

I am looking to buy a "headset" for my FT-60R HT.  I'm used to the earbuds I use with my iPhone, yet most of what I see is over-the-ear headphone-like; seems a bit weird to be walking around outside with that.

Yaesu makes an adapter that would seem to split the mic and sound into separate ports; perhaps that's the way to go (and buy some wired earbuds, and just use the HT's mike; well, that might not be as good in a car, but...

Anyway, any ideas on this subject would be appreciated.

I have had two of the Heil HTH-Y headsets for Yaesu HTs.  (The only reason I've had two is because I accidentally ran over the first with my truck.)  When a colleague and I first used the HTH-Y, (on Yaesu FT1DR HTs) we were working at the MCAS Miramar air show.  Our ARES net control operator said we had the best audio of any of the other volunteers on the net.

Well, I ordered that very headset with my FT-60-R, but got kind of turned off, both with the over-the-ear design (yes, I knew what I was ordering when I bought them) and that they felt kind of small and uncomfortable when I tried them on.  Maybe I should have tried them, at least for a few minutes before deciding to return them...
