It is common practice to float a lead acid type battery at 2.25 volts per cell for an indefinite period. Typical consumer type batteries will degrade to about 80% of initial capacity in four years (at 25C) using this scheme.

The application will dictate if any of the other 2 or 3 charging states are required.
