PC Sat 32
« on: April 09, 2021, 05:34:51 AM »

I recently found out about this software. I went to the website and found out that the software will control two radios for doppler for satellites. I've got a pair of FT817's and want to get set up for both FM and SSB birds. I've done some satellite work with my Arrow and two HT's but want to up my game by incorporating some rig control and maybe eventually antenna control. Besides the PC SAT32 software, what else do I need to interface via CAT to my radios and how do I connect two of them to the computer at the same time. I also have FT817 commander and interface on radio at a time using the Yeasu programming cable to USB. Would I just use another programming cable and connect the second radio to another USB?
Thanks for the replies.

If your answer isn't here ...

... contact WD9EWK - I believe he uses "twin" '817 rigs for working some satellites. Or
if not, he will have a reference for you!

First of all, the software is SatPC32.

SatPC32 has the ability to run with a number of different radio combinations. Two FT-817's work fine.  One minor limitation to CAT control on Yaesu radios is the TX frequency cannot be updated while transmitting. It's not a huge deal as long as you're not long-winded.

You will need a USB cable for each radio to the computer. You can buy them on eBay or Amazon for ~$15-30.  I like the Valley ones with FTDI chipset.

Follow the SatPC32 instructions and you shouldn't have any issues.

That's nice of you to point out that WD9EWK is someone that can be trusted for good information when it comes to utilizing amateur radio satellites. With that said, maybe you should ask WD9EWK if it's okay to refer people to him rather than just blinding sending people to him. If my information is correct (it is), WD9EWK isn't an AMSAT Ambassador and, if he chooses to respond, it would be because he's a good man that likes to help others.

I would have thought that someone that loves to brag that they are an AMSAT Ambassador could have handled this issue by themself and not had to call-in outsiders. I guess I was wrong.

Best of luck to the OP. I'm not an AMSAT Ambassador but can tell you that Google or other search engines can be your friend. There are ways of controlling both of your radios and there are those that will be willing to help you if you are willing to do a bit of research on your own. We all look forward to hearing you on the amateur radio satellites.
