New Tecsun H-501 review by RadioJay
« on: April 22, 2021, 09:41:40 PM »

The always awesome Radio Jay Allen has posted a detailed and informative hands-on/ears-on/eyes-on review of the upcoming Tecsun H-501/H-501x portable multiband receiver. It sure looks like a very worthy and fairly unique larger portable multiband-and-then-some:

https://radiojayallen.com/tecsun-h-501-h-501x/

Looks to be around $300USD, but I think prices are not quite 'real' yet. I'm very interested in seeing more/others' reviews as they become available, but over the years I've found his opinions and advice quite reliable and trustworthy.

I haven't bought a new portable RX in some time, but the features on this one look very intriguing.

Just a little new-gear-news for the SWL gang here.

I've got my eye on a belka dx, a different kind of radio for sure, and not the type like Tecsun that can give you plenty of volume possibly for Fm broadcast.
But the reviews are stunningly good, they can be found on eham or just google Belka Dx and look for a eham review.
Its apples and oranges, but you did say you hadn't bought a portable in awhile, this one is very small. Just a consideration. The price is good also.

I own several different Tecsun's and at another address and forget exact models now. One is a 660? and 310 and I think a 365.(the one with rotating antenna on top) I hear there is a new version out now..the 368... I think these are useful for SSB and poor on AM BCB 530-1700,etc. Actually I got a least a couple just to listen to myself. One can test your transmit signal 'short range' although automated signal only legal on 10 I think. Have SSB you can hear CW.

I got burned (my guess) on a couple Tecsun's that people raved about but mine stunk and stunk bad. Like a 310. Most thought it was reasonable AM BCB but mine equaled a $10 radio...terrible...

I still distrust the CHINA stuff. Like what factory did it come from ? Is it counterfeit ? How many models from Tecsun ? (that are duplicated by a different brand)

That https://www.anon-co.com/  website is a good bet as located in Hong Kong and seems to have a reputable following.

Nothing like a radio made by a well known company like ETON or Sangean or C. Crane, etc. Even if made in China there seems to be quality control.

A little subject change..(excuse me)

Take some of these cheap junk Chinese FM radios and plug some amplified speakers into the earphone plug. Some can actually sound good. A speaker I like is the Logitech Z313. I bought some decades ago and noticed they are still selling them. Reasonable price.

Save the speakers on your expensive DX portable. (by theory they must wear out) Brings life to a radio. Of coarse I am talking about a residence with no noise. (vs. portable  'on-the-go')
