Hello everyone, I hope this is the correct forum for my question.
I have several old antenna coils from Archer/Radio Shack model #21-940a CB/10 meter antennas, and I have a question regarding how to install new coax. I don't have the original antenna mounts that came with the coils, so I will have to improvise on hooking up the coax to the antenna load coil. According to the manual, the antenna coil is shunt wound for impedance matching and static noise suppression. The antenna coil itself obviously has a jack for the center conductor, and a threaded metal part to screw onto the antenna base. My question is this. Since the antenna coil is shunt wound, do I just solder the center conductor and shield together to each other and connect to the center conductor jack on the antenna coil, or should I solder the center conductor and shield separately to the antenna coil center conductor and threaded metal part. Maybe someone out there that has one of these antennas or has owned one in the past can point me in the right direction. I have used the antenna before on 10 meters with great results, and would like to use it again on 10 meters now that the band is starting to open up again. Thanks for the help!
