IC-706 vs. FT-891
« on: April 27, 2021, 11:56:56 AM »

So, on eBay, the IC 706's are selling for more than the FT-891's new. The FT-891 sells for about $620 or so. I have an IC-706, (one of the first ones made), and have ordered a FT-891.  I am wondering why people are paying so much for the IC-706?  I like the IC-706 a lot. I just figured that the FT-891 would be a little more advanced. Your thoughts?

I guess 2 meters matters....   706 has it, 891 doesn't.

Other than that the specs are similar.

The 706 series has held its value because of the 2m and, in the case of my IC-706MkIIG, the 70cm functionality. There are few multiband rigs available out there since Yaesu discontinued the FT-857D and even those rigs are holding at around $700 used.

My 857 is now worth more than I paid for it and an ATAS-120 12 years ago, albeit used.

Amazing......

I have an FT-817, FT-857D, and now an FT-897D.
All band, all mode, including 2M and 70cm.
I'm hanging on to these for as long as possible.
Besides, I like these radios.

Now I did get to play with a friend's FT-991A the other day.
Not gonna lie, that's a pretty sweet radio too!
Does all the above, plus C4FM, with much better DSP.
