ISS Crossband Repeater ON
« on: April 27, 2021, 11:46:23 PM »

ARISS announces May 7, 2021 for anticipated ISS crossband repeater activation.

Best results have been during off-peak hour passes - it’s not your TX power … it’s the scores of us trying to all access at the same time (grin).

That is great to hear!  Looking forward to using it again!  Always nice to have another satellite to play on.

Update on the ISS crossband repeater. It should become active shortly after 1245 UTC May 7 (5:45 AM PDT). The APRS system will be off while the crossband repeater is on. A best guess is that the repeater will be operational for around a month before switching back to APRS mode.

I made my first contact through the ISS repeater early this morning here in Kentucky.  My station consists of nothing more than a Baofeng UV-5R and a homemade 1/4 wave 2 meter antenna in the attic of my apartment.  Not the best setup, but it works.

Last night's 8:43PM Pacific pass was busy - but not "outta control" busy.

SO ... If you tried it before and was not able to get in due to so many trying to access,
now may be the time to try again - during "off-peak-hour" passes!

Just 5W into a good antenna is required.

Made quite a few QSOs on the ISS repeater in the past week.  Great signal out of it, it has a much more consistent signal that the FM satellites do at my QTH.

Is there a schedule of when the ISS is in Voice or Packet mode around?  Seems like I get setup in one mode, and it's in the other.

Thanks
