Help with ic 7300 scope setting
« on: May 21, 2021, 05:57:26 PM »

Hi. Just got a brand new ic 7300. Great rig. I wanted to use the “fixed” display so the frequency marker did not stay in the center, but moved across the dial. When I do that on 40 meters CW, it only gives me 7.00 to 7.03. Is there a way to expand the edges? The next edge scale goes way out of the CW band. I would like 7.00 to 7.070. I read the manual, but can’t figure it out. Thanks.

On the touch screen, press EXPD/SET (lower right hand corner) for one+ second. Then scroll to FIXED EDGES>MHz band segment of your choice. You can set any of the three (or four...depending if you have the latest firmware version) choices to any upper or lower band edge you want. Remember to press ENT after each set freq. On the touch screen lower left corner, press <1> then EDGE to scroll through each selection you made for the band you're on.

Also, in case you haven’t tried it... try green on black and turn up the averaging. You can have a great display with a thin green line that resembles a spectrum analyser trace. I am not in a position to give you the colour settings this weekend, but if you can’t get it quite right there is a YouTube video showing it.

The Icom default display is awful.

You can make the line any color you want with the various intensities of red, green, blue. Personally, I made it yellow...for me, better contrast against the black background.

Thank you everyone. I got it fixed the way I wznted. I changed the colors. And did find the YouTube video. I really like the rig. I think it receives very well. The antenna tuner is limited, but I have an LDG, so that works. My antenna is an end fed half wave and it is 1:5 or 6 on most bands. I think the lowest was 1:3.5. So, the internal tuner won’t work.  I have my coax into my house switching to zip line to get through the door wall, so it is pretty messed up. But, the LDG makes it work fine. Anyway, thank you all and the rig is great.

Remember you can email the actual setup files for the rig to anyone you want. I have emailed my setup to several guys and they can load them in a couple of seconds. I always encourage them to keep their own present setup on the SD card as well so that way they can switch back if they don't like it.

Also not a bad idea to keep you favorite setups in the cloud backup so if your rig was to be destroyed including the SD card, you could get a new rig and SD card and have your complete setup back in seconds.

As a new 7300 owner I suggest you watch all the You Tubes by "Ham Cured Smoke" regarding this radio.
They are the best out there.

Icom 7300 from A to Z is the title I believe.

Well the idea here is if the rig (and SD card) are destroyed and you collect on your ARRL insurance and get a new 7300 you can have it up a running in a few seconds, all set up just like your old rig by loading in your old configuration.
