Another IC 7300 question External tuner
« on: May 22, 2021, 05:55:39 PM »

Hi. I have my new IC 7300 and the LDG AT 100 Pro. I bought the cable interface that has the tuner plug to mate with the IC7300’s tuner socket and the power and radio plugs for the tuner. The tuner powers up, but after I set the internal tuner to manual when I press the tuner button on the radio, the internal tuner tunes, not the LDG. I have to manually turn the power down and then send out a few signal and the tuner tunes. In other words the tuner acts like it is only getting operating power from the radio but no command to tune and the radio does not send out a carrier to the antenna so the tuner can tune.
When I had the same set up with my IC 706, I hit the tuner button and the radio would transmit 10 watts and the tuner would tune. I am wondering if I did something wrong in the setup, or if the cable is faulty.

MENU > SET > Function > Tuner > [TUNER] Switch = Auto. This way I have it on my IC-7300 and both LDG AT-200Pro and Elecraft KAT500 work as expected, i.e. as your IC-706.

Edit: maybe the TUNER button on IC-7300 must be hold for a second for LDG to tune, I don't remember it exactly as I only use Elecraft tuner for some time now.

When the tuner gets RF power it tunes. The LDG's can be put into bypass (at least the 1000 PRP II can) and then use the radios tuner only.

My 1000 will automatically go into bypass if the VSWR is below what I set the tuner threshold at. I beleive if the tuner light if off on the radio then the LDG is also off.

They are live to each other. The LDG can be in bypass but cannot be on and the radio light off if I remember correctly.

Edit: maybe the TUNER button on IC-7300 must be hold for a second for LDG to tune, I don't remember it exactly as I only use Elecraft tuner for some time now.

A quick push turns the radio tuner on and off. A longer hold tunes.

Make sure the 7300 is tuned to 50 ohms before turning the tuner off.
