Tablet Power
« on: May 30, 2021, 08:41:47 AM »

I have a Win10 Dell Venue tablet running APRSISCE32 off a Kenwood D710G in my car. Power for the radio and tablet comes off my car battery to a Rigrunner 4004USB with fused Anderson Power Poles and 2 USB (max current 2A). My tablet usually runs down and powers off on long trips.

The OEM Dell Venue PSU is 24W (19.5V/1.2A). Might there be an option I can try to keep my tablet running off battery w/o running down?

How about a dc-dc converter, such as this one:

Also, see some suggestions here:

There is also the possibility of using a DC to AC inverter to 'plug in' your tablet's power supply.

When portable in contests I run my Asus laptop with a 12V to 19V laptop power supply from eBay. I am lucky in that it is electrically quiet, you might be unlucky though. I had a 12V USB module that was so noisy I threw it in the bin.

A typical adapter is eBay item number 124210691730. With that type use hot melt glue to fix the Voltage slider... avoids accidents.

I got this 12V to 19V DC-DC  Converter last summer for my laptop, it does not make any RFI and comes with an assortment of 12 output connectors.  Plenty of power for your tablet :-)

Instead of cutting the input cable, I got a Cigarette Lighter Socket with Internal 15A ATC Fuse and Powerpole Ends from Powerwerx.  My battery pack (a 40Ah LiFePO4) has a Cigarette Lighter Socket and Powerpoles but this adds some versatility.

This looks the simplest - I can add Anderson Power Poles to the 12V input and splice a USB B Micro Male cable onto the 19V output.

Thanks all!
