All pics render fine on Firefox (v. 89.0) and on Chromium on my Linux Mint system.
URL link works properly.

The 2 images and the link in the first post all work for me, as does the second post's image.    Older Firefox  v 72.0.2 (64-bit)

Thank you to everyone who replied, and to Mike (N1MG) for confirming that he's also able to see the images posted from my webspace.  Looking at the responses it now looks as though it's all down to individual browsers and settings.  An immediate solution is to use an external image hosting service., despite my preference for using a personal webspace.  My ISP does offer a paid secure hosting option and I'll consider that in the longer term.

I didn't even know this, but my personal website has been upgraded to https (it's hosted on Bluehost). Here's an image with an https link.

Part of the "hit or miss" aspect of the images may be due to the hosting company itself.
Some IPs spam filters occasionally deem certain other IPs as spammers. I know host monster and blue host have problems in this area.
My new hosting company does not. ( or at least not in the last 3 years...)

If you inspect the HTML of an eHam page that is displaying a picture, you will see that the image is simply passed to the client browser in the form of a URI. If there are any non-trust implications in the retrieval and rendering, it is on the client side, not the eHam side.
