spectulation: Star Trek subspace ham radio
« on: June 24, 2021, 06:13:01 PM »

Was watching and geeking out on Star Trek.   ;D

In one episode Capt Kirk asks Uruara(sp) to contact a private commercial subspace station on a planet they were checking up on.  Of course it's all sci-fi, but imagine interstellar amateur radio on "sub-space" radio.  Imagine "DXCP" awards, say for QSOing a hundred different planets?

Anyway, back to the real world...   ;D

Just a little curious, what were you smoking when you thought about this ? It is a good idea though !

If you buy in to quantum entanglement then instantaneous communication anywhere could be possible.

I guess they picked the name "sub space" instead of ordinary sounding "space radio" maybe its a slight reference to side band radio.

And not to detour the topic, on utube I managed to run into free energy free wifi diy. Lots of spark plugs, wires, speakers and magnets. Its amazing how those spark plugs can make energy, we should all have a few wired up to get that free electron flow. Somehow on the internet there is a real magical confusion about what a spark plug can do.

Can't wait until QST features a homebrew sub space radio project!

Then I can go for my "Worked All Planets" award.  ;D

That might require a "universal translator adapter" though...  ::)

Seems to me too much of ham radio is "science" fiction.

Magical antennas, learning code while commuting, "resonate" antennas, the holy grail of the 1:1 SWR, the virtues of $500 handmade paddles etc.

Great, now we can get RFI from other planets as well.  Hope they haven't discovered switching power supplies yet.

Laugh it up guys. The Chinese have already demonstrated quantum entanglement at a distance of 1200 km. with an orbiting satellite.
