As far as a RF speech compressor even the older MP's were what we used to call Meat Grinders to cut threw pile ups but just look at the by products, these older designs had lots of RF hash on both sides of the signal, just look at 20m during a Sunday afternoon and when an OP will state what he is using then look at his spectrum profile and I would bet its an older radio plus allot of these older rigs will overload on the RX side very easy against newer radio designs.

The 1000MP series are favorite of some very loud EU stations and are winning contests. RX performance seems to be very important with mediocre antennas, where local stations are very loud, but not as much with good antennas.

The MP's can be set up to take out 5 to 7Khz of the bands over in EU and on CW if not modified have very load Key Klicks so in EU that make killing off your competition very easy but once a super station chimes in there done but they have to have a more modern rig to put up with all the RF hash and noise. I ran modified MP's back in the late nineties but somewhere around 2010 they seemed to fall short of radio's like the TS590S or the FTDX3000 and today there's alloy better rigs offered but I will admit there Collins inside marketing plan worked very well for that time period with two IF strips full of 8 pole filters in every slot but today brick wall DSP has taken that away with better front end designs plus lower noise mixers or no mixers as with SDR's.

I could always tell when a guy was running an unmodified (key click mod) 1000MP or 1000D  9 times outta 10. Absolute garbage spurious key clicks were always present when they were using an amplifier. Thankfully most MP's or D's go unused today.
