ARRL Field Day this weekend!!!
« on: June 25, 2021, 05:47:29 PM »

It always happens this time of year.
I'm like a little kid on Christmas Eve!
Because FIELD DAY IS THIS WEEKEND!!! WOO-HOO!!!
And it's back to a live group event again this year!!!

Lots of good food, fellowship and camaraderie, playing lots of radio,
overnight camp out, it just doesn't get much better than this!
The car is loaded with camping and radio gear, all set to go in the morning.
Our setup begins around 9AM local time. Plenty of time to setup a 5A operation.

Hope to catch you on the air! I'll be signing K8KRG (club call) on CW.

Now to snag the W1AW Field Day bulletin tonight on 40 meters for our first 100 points!

Will be operating as KH0W from American Memorial Park, Saipan. CW only. Had issues with the radio & laptop overheating the last two years. Just another tropical day with a heat index of 100+ degrees and humidity of 80%...........Glad I don't work SSB. I couldn't handle hearing "please copy" all weekend long.

Yawn.   It’ll only be around 110 in the shade today.

My contesting is always done at a very relaxed pace with no intention of accumulating competitive scores.  I just enjoy taking advantage of many stations being on the air.
I'll be operating as a "1D" when it starts later.

I'll have to be a very casual 1D this year.  Ended up with too many contractors working at the house to be able to get out with the club for even a visit.  Outside chance I can get there tomorrow AM, but weather is very threatening, so I may just stay 1D and attribute points to the club.  At the rate I have been "in and out" there won't be many points, but I'm probably the only club member to jump into the CW fracas, so it is worth it if even for a few QSO's.

All in good fun!

I wonder if the people calling "CQ FD" on the WARC bands realize that their log entries will not count.  It is very annoying to those of us who flee there on weekends.

It only hit 90 yesterday, and 91 today with high humidity.
A little above normal for us.

But 110 is pretty rough.

You can tell how good a Field Day weekend was, by how tired you are when it's all over.
I'm certainly going to bed early tonight, because I'm exhausted. Definitely not as young
as I used to be.

We had a blast on Field Day! No clue how many contact we made overall, but I know we did
100 contacts on CW. The phone guys on 40 "cleaned up" as they put it. But like K4EMF
mentioned, we're not avid contesters going for maximum score. Plenty of the social aspect
of Field Day was enjoyed by all.

Definitely looking forward to doing it again next year!

I havent done field day in a long time. I would echo K4EMF thoughts. I took a casual approach. Pulled the Honda 2000 generator out of storage and operated as a 1E. I enjoyed it very much.

Me and the wife had a good time, she worked 105 SSB and I got 275 digital. We all operated from home again this year as we could not get our usual FD site this year (it was rented to another party).  One of our guys made over 700 contacts on CW.  But he is a "machine".  I had to bug out several times because of lightning storms, including missing the last 30 minutes when I was on a roll to 300, but had to shut down with nearby lightning. OH, well, still had fun.

Worked a new 6 meter grid (DM56), a new satellite grid (BP62) and made three 2 meter E skip QSOs with Ohio and Virginia from Oklahoma, what a weekend!

I wasn't home for much of the FD period, but did rollout my portable generator, connect it to the transfer switch and power the house and shack. Made 90 Qs or so as 1E and had fun - needed to test run the generator anyway for thunderstorm season.

My old FD group has kind of shattered, even before the pandemic. Might try to revive it next year for a an outdoor portable operation.

That’s a lot of CW contacts under the supposed poor conditions. It kind of contradicts the postings in the closed FT8 thread.
