Has anyone used Quartzlab?
« on: July 01, 2021, 05:42:19 PM »

I tried to order some custom ground crystals from Quartzlab in the UK...filled out their online order inquiry form and submitted it....never heard back from them. Submitted it again...still no response.Has anyone here ordered from them? Any suggestions for an alternative?

I have read some favourable references to Quartzlab in various newsgroups etc. but my experience was the same as yours: no response to several enquiries.  In the end I gave up and used Hy-Q:

I used them once, my first and last. Email communication was timely prior to the order and a 20 day estimate was quoted for delivery. After 60 days I sent an email requesting status but no response. Two days later I sent another status request and got no response. After another two days I sent the third request and received a snarky response that the crystals had been shipped but that he was irritated by my three status requests, didn't deserve to be bothered and wondered if I had not heard of the Covid-19 crisis. All that I asked for was a status update. I'll not be using them in the future.

If you are interested in alternatives try Bomar, www.bomarcrystal.com or the the ham that recently purchased the AF4K (sk) crystal production. I can't remember his call but there was a post in one of the eham forums a short time back.

Good Luck,

I have no experience with them, but worth a try...

Does AF4K produce custom crystals?  Bomar is again doing custom crystals but don't expect hammy prices.

According to web info ( http://www.af4k-crystals.com/ )Steve Johnston, WD8DAS, purchased the AF4K crystals business.

He states,"While we do not cut custom crystals to your frequency, we have ready-to-use crystals on the most needed frequencies in stock. If you don't see what you need in the website store, please click the "Send Email" link"....". You might give him a buzz just to see. Good Luck.

If it were me, I would find someone else. I don't put up with that kind of BS. Sounds just like all the crap from trying to buy from the so called " New Heathkit Company "

I used them a couple of years ago. Was quite satisfied.

As far as:

I'm going to be very polite and say whomever is the mouthpiece for that outfit SERIOUSLY needs to learn customer-relations skills.

HB9MFD...Thanks for your suggestion, as I haven't been having much luck finding the custom crystals, at least at a halfway reasonable price. I will be sending them an inqury

Rob..you could also consider Hy-Q, per the previous link:

https://www.hy-q.com.au/crystals/index.htm

They made me some custom crystals for a Heathkit restoration for about USD30 each.
