IARU HF Contest This Weekend
« on: July 08, 2021, 02:46:15 AM »

The IARU HF Championship starts at 1200Z Saturday July 10th and runs to 1159Z Sunday July 11th. This is always a fun summer (northern hemisphere-centric...) contest with both SSB and CW modes.

The exchange for most stations is RST and ITU Zone - a worldwide zone map here and a US one here.

IARU National HQ stations will be on as special multipliers and they will send the abbreviation of the national club name, like ARRL, RAC, RSGB, NZART, etc.

Bands have been mediocre at best. Hopefully tonight/tomorrow things will improve. Some fantastic CW operators have come out of the woodwork this weekend!!!

I had fun doing this one. Operated mostly through the night. For a change I ran only CW at LP. There were a few stations that didn't hear me but 100W got the job done. 100% S&P. Great practice. Always liked this contest. Only experienced a small number of bad ops and clickety clackety. N1MM barked when I entered TO5GR in Zone 11 but thats clearly what he sent. Looking forward to next year.

I was at my daughter's house most of Saturday, but snuck in a few hours for 232 contacts - mostly chasing the multipliers but I did some running, which racked up up a lot of 1 pointers!

20M was really strong to EU when I got home, but when I tried it right at the contest start before I had to leave, not so much.

I like the challenge of working weak signals on 20 early in the morning when the band is quiet. Usually after making a pass across 40. I got some nice M's on 10 in the late morning too.

Made about 350 CW contacts this year.  Did not go all out, but had a blast and enjoyed 10/15 openings!
