Don't you just love it....
« on: July 23, 2021, 06:55:37 AM »

....when someone posts a question on a forum, asking for help or advice and never replies again after many folks answer and try to help? We take the time to read his query, and if we think we can help solve a problem or offer advice, we then take the time and effort to respond. Many days later, not even a "thanks for your input", or even a "you're full of baloney". I'd think it's just common courtesy to at least acknowledge that you read the responses, and not make us feel like we wasted our time.

I’ve found that to be true in forums unrelated to ham radio as well. Common courtesy is uncommon unfortunately and particularly in this hobby which has more than its fair share of antisocial aberrants.

Sadly so, Don. After 62 years in ham radio, and never working in a technical vocation, I still have a lot to learn. I promptly read answers to my posted questions, and always respond appreciatively in kind.

It's not just ham radio, it's the way things are in general.  Most people anymore, are just interested in themselves and what they can get.  I guess it's a statement of our society!

PS:  I, too, have been told I am full of baloney, and other stuff!

Noticed that and so asked ".Ok so what did you decide. We seldom see the final word on these kind of things so it would be interesting to find out what you decided? 73's and good DX" The fellow responded and let "us" know what he chose to do. Was not my suggestion but that's fine, he chose a better solution, at least he took the time to respond.

But many don't respond, even after you post that. It's as if they totally abandoned their thread. On a recent thread I and others took the time to respond to, I'll wait a few more days or a week for him to respond, and post what you suggest if he doesn't. Maybe add a bit of sarcasm ::).

I can't blame the guys who post & question & then are never heard from again. QRZ is the worst for this kinda stuff. Someone will post a serious question & then some Dumbo will post a link to a YouTube music video or some other TOTALLY UNRELATED garbage.

For example: An amateur in Hawaii will post a question regarding his new SteppIR antenna. Some idiot sees that he is in Hawaii & feels compelled to post a photo of a Hula girl or a link to a YouTube Don Ho music video. Next we see another clown saying how he enjoyed his honeymoon in Hawaii back in 1963..........On & on it goes all while the guy who posted the original question is left wondering if there are any serious people left in the world.

No, I can't blame these kinda guys one bit for never returning to their thread.

That reminds me, I've got to the rfi section of the forum to see if that poster found his pulsing noise.. Hope he reported his findings if any.

And I can't blame you for looking at it that way...your opinion. BUT, I think the original poster, as a matter of common courtesy, should have the responsibility to ignore the obvious idiots (there will be some, especially the "holier than thou" jerks that say "what a stupid question, you should know that!") and acknowledge the ones that are really trying to help. Let them know they didn't waste their time. If you think you're not going to get any valid answers, then don't post in the first place.

Do you get aggravated when you call or email the manufacturer of a product you own with a question, and don't receive a timely response? Or no response at all? To me, same thing on these forums, only in reverse. When a manufacturer answers my questions, I respond with a "thank you", whether it helps me or not.

Maybe I'm just an idealist, expecting too much from people ;).

Why does it seem like everyone over 50 feels the same way?

How did the younger folks not learn good manners, respect, responsibility, work ethic, etc.?   After all... we raised them! (Well, not me.  I don't have any children that I've been made aware of.)
