A bit of IOTA from ZL
« on: July 28, 2021, 02:32:19 PM »

Did a very rough one handed video of a few minutes of my few hours of operating during IOTA.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6y0hfahv1mcz1pq/P1000202.MOV?dl=0

Had to wind the audio right up and sun was coming in the room so that didnt help at all.

Anyway its there.

That's one nice multiplier I didn't get. I was active as OV2T from North Jutland (EU-171) Denmark and operated holiday style barefoot with an IC-7300 and a low hanging fan dipole.
it sounds like you are getting out pretty well. Hope to catch you next time!

I really tried to give Eu a good shot this year, had a great little run going into Eu, but a certain station in China just kepot on calling and calling despite me saying EU only Eu Only then they would keep calling again and again in the end I just plain told him , sent his callsign QRT GO AWAY EU ONLY but it sort of messed up things for me.

Hope to see you next year, may have to to take a year off as we will be moving maybe soon and then have to get a tower and beam up in a suburban area and get back on the air again.

Cheers.

No worries Gavin, I doubt that I was able to work you with my little station amongst the bigger stations. To bad about the Chinese station that kept calling. Sometimes they simply don't understand your directions. More often they don't want to understand your directions. In contests, I just work everything that comes back to my call. It takes way more time and energy to tell them to bugger off because they never do. Work them and be done with it. Same goes for dupes. Just work them.

For years, we have been active from EU-146 and my friends and I have plans to do that again. The problem is that this contest is in our kids summer holiday so it's difficult to plan. We will be using more serious antennas from that location so maybe we can make the QSO then. That is if you are able to participate with the moving and all. I certainly hope that goes well and that you will be able to put up a tower and a yagi. I wish you the best of luck!

Wow, some really big signals from North America. I'm assuming you have a Yagi & it was pointed at NA?

Yep, when the loud boys start, they are really loud, 4 ele monobander  @ 65 ft pointed SP.

I always sit there and go Brrrr when the loud brigade arrive, can make it real easy, but frustrating for the guys under them, luckily can see the weak signals off to the side on the scope so try and give them a go.

Years ago, we used to run a QSX QRL tape at a place I worked, when we got too many stacked up we would go QRL until we got the numbers down a bit, then you flick the QSX tape on and it was wall to wall across the whole calling band, 16Mcs was always freaky, Rhombics at 180 - 220 ft you could hear everything.

Take care Tom, see u on the air.
