Gigaparts vs DX Engineering?
« on: July 30, 2021, 03:07:09 PM »

I'm planning on bundling some gear and am looking at these 2 sellers. Gigaparts comes up a few dollars less than DX Engineering. I'm new to the game and and wondering if there's any other reasons to go with one over the other.

Thanks.

I recommend checking out Ham Radio Outlet. They typically have the best prices. I have bought from DXE and Gigaparts. DXE has great support, Gigaparts not so much. I like HRO. YMMV.

Both are fine.  I generally buy from R and L and DXE but have also purchased from HRO.

I buy most things from DX Engineering and a bit from R and L. Love them both. Haven't used GigaParts yet. Don't use HRO only because of state taxes. I think you will find all major ham radio dealers to be excellent.

Over the years I have purchase from both DX Engineering and Giga Parts but like another person commented. I prefer HRO as their prices, service and inventory seem to be a bit better than the other two. But again, this is my personal choice.

Thanks for the feedback, gents.  I had forgotten about HRO.  I'll check their prices. 👍

I buy from HRO and DX Engineering regularly, DXE the most often by far. Both have been very good to deal with. DX Engineering does have very good support if you ever need it and are very helpful. I'm sure HRO does too. I really never buy from GigaParts.

I like HRO Plano Texas because I just hop in my truck and drive a few miles and pick it up in person. Then I hang around an hour or so and play with all the nice radios they have on display. Lots of fun to visit there. Like a big kid in a candy store.
I never bought anything from the two mentioned stores just because HRO is so close to me and have good service for me. The other two places are probably ok also, but I just don't know.

HRO in Denver has been my go to location for new ham gear. Great service and they stand behind what they sell.

All of my stuff comes from AES in Milwaukee. I think I will give AES a call right now & place an order. I hope they throw one of their magazines in with the order. If AES doesn't have what I'm looking for I will call one of the stores along "radio row" in NYC.

It depends.
I purchase from:
Hamworld in Talledega. Generally good prices on what they carry or have in stock. Real nice guys to deal with.
RandL. Good prices. Quick ship.
DXengineering. Will combine autoparts(Summit Racing) and ham stuff to meet the "free shipping" threshold.
HRO. About 18 miles from my Atlanta QTH. Nice return policy, good prices.
Gigaparts? No. I don't get a good vibe.

Mostly buy gear from other hams.

AES is no more, hasn’t been for 5 years.  It is HRO now.

I use DXE myself. Also use their sister company Summit Racing. Both excellent service. Prices are a small amount higher, but when you call or email a question, you get a knowledgeable response. Nice to talk with people who can help you with a wire antenna or building a 450 HP Chevy 350 engine.

I used to use AES in Milwaukee as it was within driving distance so no shipping cost. Been there only once after HRO took over. Seemed cold and rather unfriendly.

Again, excellent feedback.

I have my heart set on a Yeasu FT-991A but I not understanding why everyone is out of stock with anticipated delivery in late September.  🤔
