I'm not much for water, let alone cold water, but a little due diligence shows me this expedition sailing yacht, the Marama 101' oceanic ketch, is quite versed for the Roaring 40's.  https://maramaexpeditions.com/en/sailing-cruises/

Some of the pictures from past Antarctic expeditions are absolutely fantastic:  https://maramaexpeditions.com/en/gallery/

We may very well be looking at the future of some DXpeditions - instead of million dollar DXpeditions, helicopters, safety and comfort, the younger guys may be looking for excitement, danger and fun.  Rebels.  Go figure.

I remember a few years ago Dom telling me big sailing yachts were/are the way to go.  I don't know enough about sailing to render my worthless opinion.

I'll stick to my motorcycles.  Zoom, zoom.

Good luck, this is going to be a real challenge. I thought going to Mellish Reef (VK9ML) was hard, but Bouvet is a different level. Donation made via PayPal. Stay safe!

Looks as difficult to leave Bouvet as it is to arrive:

Here are short-path bearings over Bouvet's topography from Cape Fie to various NA locations:

Who says? The hard part is supposed to be activating these places.

The traditional activation point was easy for EU and NA, hard for Asia.  I got my one and only Bouvet late in the 1990 expedition with a pop gun station.

The problem with the 1990 activation (viewed globally) was that EU and NA operators would not step aside for the relatively short duration long path opportunities for Asia.

The issue here could be EU and Asia not enabling the LP paths for NA this time.

Time for folks to study their charts and figure out what LP prop is going to look like on various bands when this thing hits the shore.

If NA concludes they aren't going to get their Q, that may adversely influence fund raising.  Traditionally, NA provides disproportionate funding for these things.  I doubt if the foundations change their tune, but individuals??? That's the wild card with this one.

Glad to hear of all this activity.  Good luck to all.

I am pretty sure we heard A LOT of explaining that the ONLY way to get onto Bouvet was to helicopter on. Beach landings were too dangerous and were only possible on the wrong side of the island.

Now, its by sailboat, the the "wrong side", and landing by Zodiac.  Just sayin....

The lesson learned is, don't buy the "its the only way" rhetoric.  Clearly it was NOT the only way.

I noticed that too, Ed. Could be the Norwegians had access to previously unknown data about the landing spot.

One thing that struck me about their ship was storage - cargo space, will there be enough, I’m sure they thought of that tho’ !

The beam of that sailboat indicates it should have more storage volume than most expedition boats which have a lot of their volume taken by a huge engine.

I see it now. I thought at first you were in California already.

I loved this, I really did: "FT8 ?  SURE, I got them ALL !!! FT8W, FT8X, FT8Y & FT8Z = Crozet, Kerguelen, Terre Adelie & Amsterdam."

Cape Fie looks like the best location for VK/OC!
We'll still be battling the QRM from EU though.
