Mobile radios with data port?
« on: August 23, 2021, 01:06:01 PM »

Can you fellows tell me what radios have a dedicated data port which can be connected to a Signalink for Winlink?
I don't really want to use the mic jack.
Thanks

Most newer HF radios have an accessory port that have audio in, audio out, and PTT connections.

Most Mobile 2m/440 dual band Transceivers have the standard miniDIN 6 data port with a 9600baud tap. I have not seen any currently sold 2m single band mobiles with a data port.
Many older 2m mobiles have data ports. The YAESU FT-1500 has a miniDIN 6 data port. Find these at a ham fest or eBAY.

I think the Yaesu FTM-100dr has a data port.  Discontinued but one is on sale right now on QRZ.

It's the plug for "packet racket".  I didn't know Winlink worked over FM.

The desire for a soundcard capability on a VHF/UHF FM radio is usually for packet or Winlink via the VARA FM mode which offers better speed over traditional packet.

But I would no longer say that the "data ready" port is common any more....it has been a missing feature of many new radios lately.

Some of the slightly older Alinco vhf or uhf mobiles have either a DB9 on the back heat sink
for either packet use or radio programming/cloning and some others actually had a data port on
the front panel but I do not know what the actual port connector was.
