DX Engineering
« on: September 10, 2021, 05:01:07 AM »

I have been doing business with DX Engineering for about 5 years. I am always pleased with their extremely fast shipping times. I just purchased an Astron SS-50M and I received it two days after my order. No muss....no fuss.

Thanks!

What a great company. Reasonable prices, fast service, and they WILL stand behind the product if things go wrong. I have had lots of purchases from them, once in a while an issue, and every time they make it right.

I recently ordered, changed my mind and cancelled the order to immediately place an order on another radio. Luckily, my bank account supported my indecision, and I waited to see if they would sort out my intentions correctly. I was impressed! They sorted through my confusion and got the correct order out the door, returned my money for the one I cancelled without delay, and maintained consummate professionalism mixed with generous understanding throughout.

I don't normally advertise for a business or supplier. First, just because my experience is normally positive, I don't generally bet on someone else's behavior. Second, I don't know the nature of individual I am sending to a company I support if I just blindly advertise. I have found an exception worth making in my experience with DX Engineering! I have now begun sticking my DX Engineering stickers (at the very least) on much of my gear. It looks good!

I especially like their DX Engineering branded antenna products like their tilt base vertical mounts.  I think the quality and sturdiness of their designs comes from their experience in the motorsport arena (Summit Racing).

Another satisfied DXE customer here. Unless they don't have something in stock I won't shop anywhere else for radio gear.

I returned to the hobby in early '21 after a long hiatus. When I was last active, I had never even heard of DXE. I always dealt with AES in Milwaukee back then.

Since January, I've bought quite a few items from them. All were delivered quickly with no issues. I have zero complaints with them, and I check with them first when looking for something I want.

They've become my go to dealer. Of course now I'm getting overrun with DXE stickers, but that's fine too. LOL

I have their ground radial base and the Omni-Tilt on my 5BTV. All the machining is top notch.

And now they are the only ACOM dealer.

Between race cars and ham equipment over the years I might have put one of the kids through college. ;D ;D ;D

I live about 20min from their HQ and know a number of the DXE crew. I Elmered one of them from wet-behind-the ears CBer to where he is now.

Besides ham radio I'm into motorcycle, muscle and race-car building...competition...shows.

You do the math on how poor I am. And DX/Summit is my favorite place to shop - their staff is ALWAYS top-notch.

That may be, but there are much cheaper ways to make radial connections than an $80 piece of aluminum and some bolts.

I assume you meant Stainless Steel vs Aluminum for the radial plate and the hardware?  Unless you have a full blown fabrication shop, you can't  come close to duplicating the quality of this product at home.

You can use a simple U-bolt (or more) with extended threads around a pipe driven into the ground to attach as many radials as you want. Solder eye-connectors on each radial and stack them on the threads, secured with a nut. A couple of bucks for the same performance.

Now Bob, don't go talking good sense and economy here!.  :)

How pretty does it have to look exactly?  Are the stations you work going to know the difference?   Is the performance going to be any better than a piece of surplus/scrap aluminum sheet that you can find at a surplus metal warehouse?

It's a piece of metal that you place on the ground.

I can do the same thing with a piece of scrap aluminum from a junkyard.  Drill some holes in it.  Done.

Take some 1/4" copper tubing and make a ring.   Solder the radials to it.   Done.

And you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.  I will stick with the $80.00 radial plate.
