Just downloaded the newest version of SDRUno for my RSPdx.  No problems installing or running BUT, it still is the MOST NON-INTUITIVE piece of software that I have ever seen.  For casual listening, we need an SDRuno Lite version.   It should include:
  • Antenna Selection
  • Mode Selection
  • Volume Control
  • Direct Frequency Setting - Virtual keypad

Beyond that?

HUZZAH!!!

I just downloaded SDR++!  It is a basic front end for my RSPdx.  I was able to start using it without needing to consult a multi-hundred page manual.

RUL,
Is that one different than the SDR play UNO app ?  If it is I may not be as skeptical about the whole thing.

Search for SDR++

It is billed as "SDR++, The bloat-free SDR software" - It runs on Windows, Linux, OSX and BSD!

I don't really understand the difficulties with using SDRUno. When you run the program, the RX control panel is right there and it has everything you need - mode buttons, band buttons, filter buttons, etc. and the Main panel has a big green "Play" button. The gain control is right there too. To tune stations, simply click on the spectrum or change digits in the frequency display using the mouse. So what is it that is so complicated?

I've used old war surplus radios and also certain high-end Yaesu transceivers which were harder!

But, SDRUno still isn't my first choice of SDR programs. HDSDR is because it has better band framing, band stacking, and much better filter & notch control in my opinion.....

I just got started with RSPdx/Uno a couple weeks ago.

My only hangup on the installation was not having a direct route of the USB cable between the computer and the dx box.  I "thought" my powered hub wouldn't be a problem, but it was. I got intermittent connections.  Then I tried connecting directly to the rear of the computer box.  Voila.  Perfect connection.

Correct me if I'm wrong.  But I suspect every electronic gizmo prefers direct connections, with as few intermediate devices, switches, connections, etc. in between as possible.  This is certainly true of antenna connections.

SDRuno is not that difficult to learn if taken in small bits at a time. A good place to ask questions  https://groups.io/g/SDRPlayUsers

It's a fantastic computer accessory.   As with any radio there is a learning curve to use it to it's fullest potential.  This curve seems a lot steeper than most.  You have to keep in mind you're not really learning a radio you're learning computer software which is why I think it makes it hard for people.   Installs easy.
Now with that said, after 35 years in the IT industry, I don't want to play computer  when I play radio.   Really didn't do anything for me and is in storage.
