Another "Rainman"

That's quite an accomplishment. No insult by reference intended.

The challenge was to receive random callsigns with speed 1061 cpm (212wpm) in the RufzXP software and to copy at least one out of 50 callsigns correctly.
And he need 45 calls to accomplish. BTW, in the training session right before the official one Yannis managed to copy call number 2!

So he needed to copy 2% of the calls correctly.

212 WPM. That's impossible. I can't even talk that fast. There must be more to the story.

I can tell you with 100 percent certainty the difference between a string of RY and a string of CQ. They sound quite different. I have thought many times that  if I can learn that, then why could I not learn more? I don't know, maybe it is possible.

Youtube is full of crap and just when something should be recorded on video, it is replaced by a few sentences with pictures. Pity.

On a good[\i] day I can copy callsigns at 1/3 the rate of 212 WPM. This kid is amazing…..I have used RuFZ for probably the past 15 years now and have found it to be a fantastic CW training tool.

It's interesting that so many of the top competitors in Rufz and CW Freak are in Europe. Just looked at the Rufz Top Speed list, and saw several listed at 1231 CPM-- that's 246 WPM. It's easy enough to dial in such speeds into the program and see what they sound like.

I recall the same thing listening to RTTY signals years ago when I tried RTTY. Those are generally at 60 WPM. Sixty WPM CW is definitely achievable by mortals. There is a pronounced speed barrier around 55 WPM to overcome.

Just out of curiosity I looked up the fastest typing speed, the highest typing speed ever recorded being 216 WPM in 1946 by Stella Pajunas according to RataType.com.

Now I'm wondering....that 200 wpm call sounded like a fart.  Maybe I've been sending high speed CW all these years!

So, on the 46th attempt at trying to decode what sounds like expelling methane, he was able to catch the call sign at 212 WPM.

Well, good for him.
