Articles sit too Long
« on: September 19, 2021, 01:31:04 PM »

Why have the same old Article sit a week on eHam? It is boring. I would place a new Article every two days.

FVJ: Probably because there are those that get on eham.net occasionally and they would miss the article.

With four Articles displayed, they sit a month. I would hope eHam is viewed more than once a month by all active.

Most hams can't or are unwilling to write an article. Maybe it's really the fault of ourselves.
How many articles have you and your club members wrote in the past 12 months?

Are there no comments given for those 4?
Charlie
On Edit: I have seen articles a month old of comments and have asked about it , receiving an answer shortly thereafter.
On Edit: The need for answers to questions do not arise every day, but when the question is asked there's ALWAYS an answer. You have to appreciate these guys (and gals).

I check the articles and do move pretty slow, they obviously need more material, sometimes you find a very short article, or one thats repeated. Its an chance to publish you own ideas or tips.

Before the new format appeared, Articles got front page booking. There was more incentive to write articles with nice color pictures.  Now articles are rendered to the bottom of the home page.

"What articles???"  - gee, I come here for the forums and back when the front page was rearranged, I guess I lost track of the articles and forgot they were even there. Thanks for pointing them out! I will try to avail myself of them in the future.  :D

I'm sorry that the current pace of articles is boring to you, but if I ran a new article every two days we would run out of articles in short order. Then there wouldn't be any new articles until someone wrote one. Content flow is important...

One thing that I learned way back in 2002, when I took over as editor, is that you have to keep the flow of articles steady, but you also have to keep the pace of newly activated articles on the same pace as incoming articles, otherwise you would run out, and that would be a bad thing. It's like keeping a balanced bank account, and like that bank account, you want reserves to help last through the lean times.

While I can't control the main articles, as those are all reader written and submitted, I can control our news articles, and those are brought in at one to two at a time, sometimes more, daily, every day, 365 days a year, even on Christmas Day. And even when I was in the hospital one time. I do what I can, with what I have, always have, always will, as long as I'm here.

I also thank you for your two most recent submissions, please keep them coming. And if you notice, the one on amplifiers was activated early this morning. :-)

I wrote about 35 articles since year 2000, but stopped 3 years ago to abuse from KM1H. He said I am menially ill, dumbest Ham ever known, steal info from others, etc. However I wrote a new article posted right now and eHam was smart enough to not use my call sign on the article due to KM1H's abuse that they are well aware of.

It' OK to express an opinion as to how long an article remains but in the end it's up to the site owner or their appointed representative to make that decision.
