I'm remembering the hassle we endured the last time something was "improved" with our Forum. Do we really want to see it happen again?? Aarrgghh!  ::) ;D

Why doesn't the forum manager just change the title to "SOTA/POTA/Mobile Operations"

Sounds reasonable to me. The mobile forum does not have much action like other forums here. Just need to cultivate the idea and let it grow.

More like "Portable/Mobile" as a lot of people operate portable, not necessarily SOTA or POTA.

Yea, I made that suggestion too (Reply #13).  But I think the description should also be adjusted to include the SOTA and POTA operators. That would make it stand out a bit better and let them know they are welcomed.

You got my vote too. We tried asking this almost 5 years ago. Maybe it will work this time with the popularity of POTA.

My suggestion was calling it Field and Portable, but either way it would be fine.

My intent is strictly for portable operations, not from your vehicle.  You can use your vehicle to get there, but this is not a mobile discussion as there is a forum for that.  It would include POTA, SOTA, IOTA, etc., i.e. not from home or your vehicle.  You're not 'mobile" if your operating from a park bench, hill top, etc.

I think you will find plenty of Parks On The Air folks operate from their vehicles, just look at the posts on that group on Facebook (dozens every day).  They are usually not 'mobile' setups, using portable antennas deployed outside a vehicle and certainly not moveable as deployed.  Most are not powered by any connection to the vehicle, but really, who cares.

A "portable" forum is needed, just don't specifically exclude POTA operators using vehicles.  Picnic table, pickup tailgate, or sitting on the dash, what's the difference?  We (I'm one of them) would like to see / share ideas about radios, antennas, power sources, logging, any station set up away from home, and probably for short-term use.
