Antenna & Shack Grounding Issue?
« on: October 02, 2021, 09:36:36 AM »

I just discovered while planning my antenna location(s) that when my contractor built my addition he ran a ground #4 braided copper from what I can tell to my basement water meter pipe under the 1st floor rafters of the main house and addition to the new main panel. It looks like they also ran it under the  brick for about 7 feet before entering the panel. There is 6" of exposed wire outside where it comes through the foundation before going under the brick.
Should I add another ground Rod under the panel and double ground it? If I do should I leave the other ground intact?
My plan is to install another ground rod under the antenna 20' away and connect to panel ground with #4 solid copper wire. Any help is much appreciated !  73

Adding ground rods never hurts. However to have the best protection, and be legal, you need to make sure all rods and water pipe ground at the main panel are tied together with a minimum #6 wire. #4 is bigger so it would be better as well.

Any braid outside is not good. Oxidation of the braid degrades the properties.
