QRP Labs: who are they and where do they ship from?
« on: October 05, 2021, 11:08:13 PM »

Looking for a CW QRP rig kit I found the QCX Mini, which looks very interesting. However, the pages "about us", "delivery information" and "terms and conditions" of the QRP Labs shop web site are empty (!?)

This does not sound good at all... I admit it sounds to me more kind of a give-me-your-money-and-cross-your-fingers shop than a reliable seller. Moreover, knowing at least the origin of the shipping, the carrier and the shipping cost usually provides a hint on if you are going to receive the goods in days or months in addition to what is officially declared (and if the two do not match it gives an indication of the reliability of the information on the shop site...)...

Most probably that is not the case and the QRP Labs shop is as reliable as their products (judging from the positive reviews of the QCX Mini, including those here on eHam) but I am wondering why they give such a bad first feeling to the new potential customers, and if someone got the same feeling I did.

Any experience from others who bought from them? (esp. from Europe for what concerns shipping, I am from Italy)

Thanks, 73

I understand your concern, but I wouldn’t worry. A friend and I have both purchased many kits from QRP Labs. Our experiences have been very good. Clearly it is a “virtual” company without a traditional factory. Most of the shipments come from Turkey, and sometimes from China. The kits are complete and have arrived in reasonable time. On-line documentation and support is good. I suggest you give them a try.

I've ordered several kits and not had any issues with shipping.... I believe Hans lives in Turkey.

As far as his kits, good quality and outstanding assembly manuals. With that said, his Mini QCX QRP rig, the receiver is ok, not great....but for the price, it can't be beat. Mini OCX assembly is definitely not a beginner's kit. especially winding the T1 torrid.

QRPLabs, there's a wealth of info online about this company. They produce and sell a wide array of outstanding kits related to the QRP community. The company is extremely responsive. All you have to do is join their users group to see what the products are and how they are received and supported by the product users and by the company. I have built and use 5 of the transceivers, there terrific.
Yes, some of their kits are not meant for the inexperienced builder, but help is available from the user group.
Check out their website. It's extremely informative.

I am pretty sure Hans lives in the UK (he has a "G" call sign).

Anyway, I want to second the other guys on here who have spoken on behalf of QRP Labs.  I have built only a single QCX but Hans answered any question I had pretty quickly and promptly replaced the microprocessor chip when it turned out the one I got was corrupted.  The final product, once I finished building it, is a great little radio.

Don't hesitate to order from QRP Labs.  It's good stuff.
