kenwood tm v71a not recieving right
« on: October 29, 2021, 02:11:18 AM »

i've owned this radio about 9 months. i've reset and reset it ,tried changing squelch setting to no avail.
when on memory scan its not picking up many signals . however by manually turning the dial or by mic up down buttons it recieves even weaker signals. my icom ic 2300 setting beside the 71 on another antenna ,same exact antenna stops at even weak signals.
have i got a defective radio or is there a setting i'm somehow missing?
not thrilled having to call kenwood service with all this backlog over virus stuff.
help would be appreciated as settings by the manual don't help.

Are you on the B side?   Found this:  For the TM-V71A, low sensitivity on the "B" side has been acknowledged by Kenwood and they offer a free fix for the problem with the ceramic filters.

If you have a TM-V71A with serial numbers 903 to 003, the fix is free.

If you you feel adventurous, you'll need 2 filters, Part number L72-1034-05 at about $4 each.

From NJ I shipped my unit to FTH Group Inc 19501 E. Walnut Drive S City of Industry CA 91748, an authorized Kenwood repair facility. There's one in VA also.

The unit was repaired and sent back in 2 days. If you have the problem and are not within those serial numbers, the K'wood repair cost is $135.38

I have two V71's; great radio.  When you say you changed the squelch settings, did you press 'Tone' on the front panel to cycle between 'Tone', 'CTCSS', 'DCS', and 'Off'?

Take a look at the memory channel to make sure DCS is not invoked.

well figure this out.
reset it n let it set powered on.maybe 2 hours. reset it again and reprogrammed it
now its recieving  as good as my tm 271 and icom ic 2300h. must been unhappy ? or troubles a brewing ahead? hope warrenty is good as now its making me rethink about it taking a ride to kenwood.
wish we could get top shelf quality in new radios like our old radios were.
my first great radio is still working needs new mic cord but its a rs htx 212,early build bought it new and it has had usage. let my license expire then i got back in.212 set quiet for several years but when asked to work it did n still is working.
THANK YOU GUYS FOR THE SUGGESTIONS TOO
