Mouser electronics
« on: October 29, 2021, 09:17:13 PM »

I finally found a source for a few semiconductors on the mouser site.
My point, these companies, and  there is another co  just like this, they are so specific in the description that you can get lost in ordering something.
I just wanted to see a few soldering stations, but the filter to get there is incredibly complex, analog, digital, company brand, temperature, one function, 3 function, I am making this look easier than I found it, it is not.
I have emailed the company about this, but I am small voice in this sort of feedback, but if you may have noticed, some of the catalog co's are extremely un-user  friendly.
Summing this up, these companies have everything, thank you, but finding a tool or part is time consuming, and a bit redundant, there has got to be a better to catalog items.
Thats my 2 cents, and in this world, its not that important. now move along, we got business to do,

I agree with you, these catalog websites are becoming more and more complex and cumbersome. I am convinced that companies are losing a lot of business because of this. There is nothing like a paper catalog to comfortably browse through.

PS: Yes, I know, an old-fashioned paper catalog is uneconomical and unaffordable in these modern times...

The website is a mess.   Then you seem to have amateur radio sites that look like they are from 1998 but I digress.   What I do is call their customer service and tell them I simply can't navigate their site and this is what I'm looking for.   More than likely they can give you a part number to search for and order or place the order for you.   More than one way around...

At least they are there and will service small orders. Be thankful!  ;)

You are right about that, small orders, I placed a $20 order and got 2nd day freight, had to pay for it of course. But I would have bought a solder station if I could find one, in searching here is one for $800 next is $180, $130.

I have used both Mouser and Digi Key for dozens of orders in the last few year.  I agree that the sites could be more "ham" friendly, especially for "old guys" like me.  However I always narrow the search as much as possible.  For example in order from lowest to highest price.  Through hole or SMT.  The initial search will be MUCH smaller if you limit it to in stock items.  Sometimes the Digi Key search function works better for me, but ultimately I may order from someone else. In the past I became very frustrated with the system, but eventually learned to work within the awful system.  So narrow the search for price, voltage, tolerance, availability, etc. then broaden it if you need to.
Perhaps my recent search for certain fuses and fuse holders was awful, took hours to find what I needed.  Finally found it on one of the major suppliers, and it worked out, except the description was not exactly what I got, so needed to do extra work to make these approximately 100 items useable for my project.
The good news is that the several main big US suppliers usually ship small orders quickly at a reasonable cost like USPS for me here in Alaska.                Rick  KL7CW

Mouser is #1!

Paper catalogs are an unnecessary expense these days.  And how do you feel when you try to order something out of a paper catalog only to find out they don't have any more and don't know when they might get more?

An electronic catalog is more efficient.  Stock comes in, stock boy puts it on the shelf and updates the database.  Parts go out and quantities are automatically decremented.  You can see if they have ZERO stock if you find it and most of the time if you see that at Mouser, there's a statement saying how many week lead time they'll need if you order it.

When ever I order anything, if I order it early in the morning, I get it at my doorstep next day.  I've *never* gone more than 2 nights before receiving what I ordered.  (I'm only 2 hours east of them on I-20.)

Their search mechanism is hard to use?  I like it.  I think it's easy.  It's better than any other search engine for electronic parts I've ever used before.  Chances are it'll be easier than trying to talk to someone there who fills orders.  Because if you can't use that search engine, you won't be able to describe the part your looking for using common words that they'll understand.  That's why they ignore emails asking for, "Hey, do you have a thing-a-ma-bob that'll fit my XYZ2241?  You know, the one that goes on the back?"

Figure it out.  If you get lost, start again.  Figure out the *specs* on what you're looking for and you'll either find it, or determine they don't have that *exact* part.  Just a little bit of effort and it'll pay off.  I promise.

Good morning! The search at Mouser is very simple and easy, as I found out myself today: First you enter into the homepage  search "soldering station". After that you get 228 articles:

https://www.mouser.com/c/?q=soldering%20station

You can sort this result further by price, manufacturer etc. How about this product for example (the first in the results):

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Apex-Tool-Group/WE1010NA?qs=sGAEpiMZZMv0NwlthflBiz59ziH1z%252BlZ3%2F9XieMKPRY%3D

I am also very satisfied with Mouser here in DL. They have - almost - everything and ship even  small things to us. We should be grateful for that.

Unbeatable! Some german online retailer looks old against it, including there web searches.

BDM is exactly right.

Unless it is a part number and not an industry standard number (like 5645475 vs 1N4001) the search engine gets you there very quickly. Much faster than paging through a catalog.

If it is an odd ball number, it probably wont find it. Then try Google and see if you can find cross match. Then search the Mouser site again.

Ive used Mouser since their catalog was a single sheet of paper.

Navigating is easy once you get the knack and pattern down but its a PITA when they keep changing it. Must be using college graduates who need changes to show their "worth"

Mouser is a very good vendor used by the company.

This happened recently. A buyer placed an order with Mouser but didn't realize it was being shipped UPS so the buyer used the company PO Box as the ship to address. When the package was tracked, there was a notice that the package could not be delivered to a PO Box so UPS was looking for an alternate address. The buyer then asked UPS if a driver could pickup at UPS's depot or if the package could be re-routed to the company physical location. UPS said their instructions allowed neither; that only the sender could re-route or allow pickup.

The buyer than contacted Mouser. Mouser said the instructions where to prevent fraudulent orders placed against real accounts then re-routed to the fraudster. That made sense, but then UPS would not allow Mouser to re-route either.

Mouser re-shipped the order immediately on account and UPS will be sending the original order back to them.

Hmm,

Took me about six mouse clicks:  Tools & Supplies -> Soldering -> Soldering and Desoldering Stations.  Then on the list I chose "soldering stations" and checked the "in stock" box and there are 28 to choose from.  You can now sort the list by price or brand and check them out.

https://www.mouser.ca/c/tools-supplies/soldering/soldering-desoldering-stations/?product=Soldering%20Stations&instock=y

But I wouldn't get one from them.  I bought mine from an equipment dealer and it was painless and fast:  https://www.tequipment.net/soldering-equipment/soldering-stations/

Maybe I started down the wrong path on my search for a soldering station, and possibly I was confusing my search with newark. Its probably be a better deal to buy else where, I am going to check your link, thanks.
