where on here to talk about outside sites
« on: November 05, 2021, 08:32:20 AM »

is there a place on here or just in this area here ? to talk about outside sites. or blast other sites.

or are we treated like kids as the other site does and not allowed to speak of what we think of other sites?

Too much negative energy! You need to relax.
If you have a problem with a site, address that concern with them. If they don't care what you have to say, stop using the site!
Easy-peasy   ;D

There ya go. You asked a simple and valid question, and in lieu of advice, you got yourself life-coach advice about your 'energy', and were scolded and told to relax. Seems that hams can't stop being rude, even when not using their radio.

If it is ham radio related, try the "Misc" forum.

AC2EU ..... your 100% rite... and yep here it is.. BUT.. ill say it. when the owner of ZED.... calls us hams freeloaders and his return email is saying his site is a privite biz and he dont care what we think... i have issues... but i guess that goes with how i was raised. do on to others thing..

N8NK ...... your 100% rite also.... sites like zed and the radio itself.. pushes people away.. i must say. why would i tell someone to get into the hobby.. its just nothing but sandbox crap... gets old.

W9IQ..... thank you for the info.. ill let it go here and see how it goes.. but at least i have better idea as not to tick off the owners of this site ...

i hate to sound like jumping on soapbox. but when a site forces you to buy a sub to post a for sale. that is wrong at least to me .. when you had the site open for so many years to start with.. then told we r freeloaders.. thats biting the hand that feeds you..
with the higher cost of living i can sort of see why they are doing it. but if your ads that your blasted with dont pay the bills. maybe charge them more. but that site doesnt care what WE HAMS think... thats no joke.. its true. how can i say that..

here is the email respone from him . how as a owner can you speak like this... to someone you want money from ..
iam not out to bash but dang it ... there is no respect from them ... NONE.. power tripping admin and a rude owner.
ill stay here and enjoy some peace...
ok off my soapbox. remember we r still free in this country for the time being. who knows in next 3 years what poll i see and binladen ops biden does to us hahhahhaa

on top of it close and remove your posting.. thats not right at all... ive ran many fourms thru the years and even BBS's
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
It's clear that we didn't live up to your expectations.

We failed to meet them when:

1. We decided to clean up the swap meet, get rid of freeloaders, and cut back on the scammers.   All it took was a subscription requirement.

2. We exercised our right as a private business to control how our image is presented to the public.

Imagine if you went to a football game and proceeded to run out onto the field, setup a loudspeaker and start shouting "THIS PLACE SUCKS".  I'm guessing that it would not work and that they would remove you.  Well, that's what is going on when you come onto our forum and start criticizing us.  That's what W7UUU's comment "Public debate of the QRZ moderation and site policy is not allowed" is about.  That means that we're not going to let you use our site against us.

So, since you're leaving, I have to point out that it's good for us.

WVO:  The reply you received was plain...easy to understand.  They explained what and why and since it IS their site they get to set the rules.

Sometimes we don't like the way "they" do things or changes "they" make so we either adapt or move on.

This is one reason it's called "free enterprise."

There may be future changes but as it now stands the various ham radio related sites are privately owned and the owners set the rules and policies. Like other universal social sites some of these ham sites do not treat all participants on an equal basis.  Since only the government can impinge on your free speech rights you have little recourse short of moving on to another site that better suits or permits your point of view.

As far as commenting on another sites moderation or rules I'm reminded of the Los Vegas commercial..."What happens on another site, stays on another site."

"freeloaders"... no there is nothing free.  I know my adblocker blocks 27 tracking cookies each time I go to the site so no...  we're not freeloaders.  Fred is selling your data.   Just like he did when he started his "business".  Listen to the " screwtube bunch" interview him and his story starts by wanting to get all the call signs from the FCC  and the FCC charged him $700 for that data on a tape reel  (google that vintage mainframe talk).   Then he took that data and bootlegged it onto disk or CD and sold it for $20 a copy.   Did I say bootleg?   Well he said "freeloader" so we're all even.   Best thing anyone can do is just delete their QRZ account if you're not fond of it.

I don't think anyone can tick off the owners of this site. They're nowhere to be found most of the time.

I don't "hang around" at ZED, so I don't know what the fuss was about.

All I can say is that I am a subscriber to their database service and it works well.
Keeping a site running correctly takes time and money. I can't fault them for trying to make a few bucks for their efforts.
He seems to feel that making certain functions exclusive to subscribers kept the riff-raff scammers at bay. If that made his life easier, so be it!

There is no free lunch. All of the so called "free search" companies, such as Google, et all, are essentially advertisement companies who sell aggregate data and prioritize searches to paid accounts. Server farms ain't cheap!

I'm not a fan of coming to a public forum and "venting".  On eHam it would more constructive to talk about ham radio, or about this site (complaints or otherwise), than to complain about how another site operates or about the denizens of said site.

I'm sure there are Zed aficionados who don't like eHam because it allows, in fact encourages, so-called anonymous users and so those QRZers don't come here.
(There's probably a few of you who don't like anons either, but continue to tolerate them - mostly. Thanks)

I'm sure there are Zed users who don't like eHam because it doesn't overly moderate (sanitize) its forums and so those users don't come here.
(There's probably a few of you who don't like our version of the Wild West, but continue to engage. Thanks again)

Isn't having a choice great?

Last time I checked, the QRZ forums didn't have a bash-eHam thread.  I'd like to return the favor.
