Icom UT-133a BT Board for the ID-5100a
« on: December 19, 2021, 12:28:37 PM »

Has anyone used the above Bluetooth module with generic BT headsets.
If so, what have you used for the PTT?

I am not interested in operating this off a phone. They only work with android phones/tablets anyway.

My Kenwood HT has a 2 pin BT module from Pryme with their compatible BT PTT button. I wonder if there is something like this.

I use a Sony HBH-300 cell 'phone headset with this BT board in an Icom IC-2730e with complete success. The TX audio received good reports. The call handling button on the headseat operates as a latching PTT so you have to remember to press it again to switch back to RX. That headset also works perfectly and in the same manner with the BT board in an Icom ID-4100e. I wouldn't think of the Sony as "Generic", although it is quite an old model and no doubt no longer available, but I see them on eBay. I had to replace the NiMh cell in mine, but that again was easy to source on eBay. Ensure you get a charger if you contemplate such a Sony offering. It's only one model and therefore hardly representative of "generic" models, but it should serve to provide some confidence that the stupidly expensive Icom wallet gouger ought to work with blue chip headsets. HTH. Steve.
