The RF Christmas Grinch
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse (expect for the RF grinch)
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care (In this case outside lights)
This is where it gets to be fun. At night on 40m FT8 the radio and power supply would turn off.
Hmmmm! So RF in the shack, you would think.
I live in a town home. My neighbor next door put up his lights and ran it across our lower gutters about 60ft.
I turn off my power supply with a remote switch at the outlet. No RF or birdies on the radio.
Turned out his remote was on the same frequency as mine. His is new, mine is 5 yrs old and two different brands. Go figure.
I found it out when I was on the phone and had the rig on. On go his lights and off goes the radio.
I had to try my remote. It controlled his lights. That explains why we were talking he was saying his remote had a mind of its own.
Merry Christmas to ALL !!!!!!!!!

Yep, let the XMAS RFI nightmare begin.

The latest trend is these neighbourhood competitions for having the  biggest xmas light shows along with decorations on houses.  All this cheap  lighting is is using LED drivers that are powered from open frame industrial power supplies. No filters or EMC compliance because they were meant to be professionally integrated into industrial equipment  with mains filters. Then this mess is connected to massive amounts of wiring that makes effective antennas.  This mess of cheap cheap unregulated LED drivers and unfiltered power supplies causes S9 plus birdies has from 3.5 to 30mhz.

Last year I tracked down one of these power supplies on 40 meters  that was S9 3 miles away with its strong frequency shifting birdies that spread right across 40 meters  and as high as 20 meters.

The EMC regulations and enforcement are one big joke because its simply not enforced while this  garbage is being dumped into consumers hands.
