Yaesu 8800 or Icom 2730a
« on: December 22, 2021, 04:33:14 PM »

I'm trying to get to decide between a used FT-8800 and a used 2730a.  Both the in good condition, the Icom costs a bit more and more people doesn't come with cables or mounts.  Which would you buy?

I would get the 8800. I have one and it has been a really good radio, in fact I would say probably the best dualband I have owned. I had a icom2720 and a few others But this one is my fav. There are a few things I wish it had, like lighted buttons on the display, not a big negative. If you are interested in 6 and 10 meters the 8900 is another option. Just my 2cents!

Ditto on the 8800.  I sold mine several years ago; wish I had it back.  They have appreciated in value.

OK, here's another question:  FT-8800 or Icom 208H?  Having dual frequency display is not as important to me as having a solid front end and good audio.

With the 8800 I have never had any intermod problems as I have had with other radios. The receive audio is good and have never had any complaints about transmit audio. Dual display and cross and mod work good too!

ive owned both. i sold the 2730,only because i bought a icom 9100 base unit.
the 3 88 and 8900s i have all work perfectly. very easy to program, etc. downfall,is they are harder to work in the dark,as no buttons are lighted. the volume/sql are on the same shaft, and easily can be moved, but thats a nitpick. very nice radios. the icom, has backlighting, and huge readout with very easy to navigate in the dark features. no brackets, but hey. sytill a good radio. either is a good choice.
