Fit of snap-on chokes?
« on: December 28, 2021, 02:11:38 PM »

I have some mix 31 and mix 43 snap on ferrites I want to use on a monitor cable, but they do not fit very tight and I can't do a wrap around. Can they slide up and down on the cable or is there a trick like wrapping aluminum foil or something around the cable to tighten the fit?

You don't need AL foil. Just use a couple of wraps of electric tape. Or just buy a larger one to do a few loops.

It’s easy to run into this, Todd. Another approach is to slip some larger heat shrink over the cable and snap-on ferrite. It should hold the ferrite snugly on the cable. I’ve done this numerous times.

If the cable has it's ends already attached, the size of heatshrink to get over the ends will not shrink enough to fit the cable well.

Break out the cheap electric tape!

Or a tye-wrap on the cable on each end of the snap on.

They make heat shrink in different sizes. One MIGHT have ends that are too big but the heat shrink, from my experience, will reduce down to keep snap-ons in place. YMMV.

Just build up the wire diameter with tape til it is snug.  You can use glue but the tape is removable.
