Yaesu ft208r
« on: January 01, 2022, 07:15:35 PM »

I just found a long misplaced Yaesu FT208r. I also have the base charger, antenna and speaker mike. It receives from my ft5dr on simplex and might just be ok with a new battery, or even just resident in the power supply. Two problems: I need to find out how to replace the lithium memory battery. Second, any way to install a CTCSS tone? I like this radio and want to keep it. Any help out there in radio land.  Happy New Year, 73, Fred KC2PK. Direct e-mail--kc2pk@aol.com

Years ago, some small supplier produced a tone board for the 208R. I had one,  it worked perfectly, and was easy to install. I am sorry I don' t recall who made it, and I seriously doubt they would still be available, so not much help in answer to your question. The 208R, although now would be considered relatively large and heavy, was / is an excellent HT; I hope you can make good use of yours.

Thanks Kent.  Any idea where the small lithium replacement battery is located? Fred

This model goes way back and was an excellent HT in its day(early 1980's era)
The standard battery was a FNB-2 and there was an FTS-32 tone squelch board
option. I had installed a comm spec slim tiny tone board in my unit and loved the
NC-8 quick charge desk charger. With the comm spec tone boards you had to
drill out/chisel a small square for the dip switch block to protrude through the
square opening so you could change tones quickly usually done on the rear
case and being plastic was an easy modification.
