Hello,
My friend and I are looking to put together a project using a Raspberry Pi 4B and a Baofeng UV-5R and we're having a bit of trouble nailing down a consolidated solution to allow the following:
-Program the Baofeng using Chirp on the Pi
-Use physical PTT and VOX on the Baofeng, or digital PTT on the Pi, to send voice transmissions using a mic plugged into the Pi
-Receive audio through a headset or speakers plugged into the Pi
All through a single cable, with audio in/out being through Pi peripherals as opposed to the Baofeng itself. We've found packages which include cables that allow us to program, but not send/receive audio, for example. It looks like the DRA 65 from Masters Communications might handle all of that, but I'm not sure about a cable for it since URI cables, the recommended companion cable site, doesn't seem to have a premade one to interface with Baofeng products. We are extremely new to radio but communications capability is a very necessary part of the project so we're trying to learn at least enough to understand how these different components can interface so we can integrate them.
If anyone is able to offer any help with nailing down what parts we would need to accomplish those above-mentioned goals through a single cable/adapter combo, we would be very grateful. Then we can focus on the software portion knowing that the hardware is at least capable of doing what we want it to do. Thank you!
