IC-7300 question
« on: January 24, 2022, 01:48:28 PM »

Considering one of these to get back on the air after a number of years.

I have a question about the COM port when also using the PRTX7300 option.  If the 7300 Com port is used to communicate with whatever display software is used for click tuning, Is there still a way for the radio to communicate with a logging program?  Or is it either/or?

Thanks much!

You can set it up with a logging program that uses Omnirig like Log4om2 and interface Ft8 and all other programs to Omnirig at the same time and set up Omnirig to connect to the 7300

The CI-V port on the back with the 3.5mm plug is one type of com port and the USB-B port on the back can have a virtual serial port. I use the USB port for all logging and audio interfacing with WSJT-x and N1MM+ logging programs, and I am not using the CI-V port currently for anything, but I have used it in the past with a simple serial converter cable.  In the menu you must "unlock from remote" so the CI-V port is not associated with the USB port and can run different baud rates. The USB port can go to 115200 (which is what I am using) but the CI-V port is limited to a max of 19200.
