Anyone have a lead on a mic cable that has RJ45 male on one end and wires on the other?

I bought a Kenwood cable off of Ebay, but it is missing a wire for pin 7, which is PTT ground for the Yaesu.  I need the wires to connect to an FT991a.

Thanks

You might try a local computer sales/repair shop or visit a Dollar Store. If you find an RJ-45 to RJ-45 cable, simply cut off one RJ-45 and skin the cable back.

As VE1GA just said,  an Ethernet cable may well do the job.

In the old days, the mic audio lead was shielded.   Is that not necessary anymore?

I’ve been using a coiled Ethernet cable as a 14’ mic
cord for years in my car with no problems.  I just
needed to make sure that the wiring was correct -
some cables have a reversed plug at one end.

I think the later versions (CAT5 and CAT6?) may
have shields on the individual twisted pairs.  How
well it works will depend, of course, on which cables
are paired, but if the radio is designed with an RJ45
plug then they may have considered that in
assigning the PIN numbers.

GET MAGNIFYING GLASS (to see wires in Modular Plug, RJ45)
COUNT the number of Wires, plus shield IF available.
BUT New Modular (RJ45); REMOVE the Connector on Kenwood Coiled Cord;
Insert wires (based on Yaesu FT991a radio functions - Read Manual); THEN CRIMP.

Search Engine (Google):
Replacement Coiled Mic Cable with Modular 8-pin

OPEK sells Replacement Coiled Microphone Cables with NO connector.
OPEK MC-86 (7 conductors plus Shield) — $ 6.95 each
http://www.randl.com/shop/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=73&products_id=70407

You can CRIMP a Modular 8-pin (slang: RJ-45) connector.
Same connector used for modern UTP Ethernet cables.

Yaesu sells Replacement Mic Coiled Cords with 8-pin connector installed,
for Yaesu microphones & radios.

** Call Icom America for their coiled cord offerings **

The Support Departments of Japanese Big 3 (Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu),
when their Replacement Coiled Cords are No Longer Available,
to “Just use widely available CB microphone replacement cords, and DIY install connector you need.”

The TRUTH is that the Radio manufacturers SOURCE these Coiled Cords and Microphones from Eastern Asian Suppliers (Japan, Taiwan, Korea,  Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, etc.)

BUY this one from ALIBABA (China) and Cutoff one end of cable for Solder wiring to microphone.

I've been doing the same with out any issues. I used it on my TS480SAT for extending the mic cable in my car as well as on my TM D700A dual band radio in my shack. From time to time I've run 1500 watts and never had any issues.
