Some areas of our country have always had labor problems.  MFJ is in one of those areas.  Since the last election, it has crashed some of the struggling areas and made other areas struggle more now.  As far as I can see on the legacy media, this is what we wanted.

MFJ stuff is great in that you will develop analysis and repair skills. You will have war stories about getting it working and keeping it from destroying the rest of your station. When you contact customer service you will learn that the world really does not care about you. It's an educational process :)

Search Google for "MFJ TOUR"  Watch them all.  They are dated and certainly not a confidence builder.  It may help one understand their operation and manufacturing processes.  There's one segment on their wave soldering machine.  Oh Boy.

My most recent encounter with MFJ was 2 or 3 years ago trying to find where my parts order for the plastic trap ends for a 20 plus old Cushcraft  A3S.   It took many phone calls and six weeks to get parts that were listed as stock items.  At that time my impression was that there were weak internal processes for order filling.  It was dependent on one person, who seemed to be a ghost.  But I did get the parts.   I do own some of their other gear, an antenna tuner, and some odds and ends that have served me well over time.

My other gripe is their horrible web site. Its such a mess trying to browse for stuff I usually give up and go to DXE.

yep, I watched the MFJ tour and Ameritron tour videos on youtube.  Fascinating place, employs a lot of people doing interesting stuff in one giant very interesting workshop.

MFJ is one of the very, very few domestic manufacturers of consumer electronic equipment remaining, and seems to defy all the odds.  Build their own board assemblies.  They actually make a lot of their own components, especially for amplifiers and tuners!!!  And use domestic manufacturers of things like transformers.  Very ingenious company.   And they employ a wide diversity of people in their company.  Covid impacts have probably been making it quite difficult to deal with customer issues and supply chain delays over the past couple of years, more than usual.

I imagine that most hams have more MFJ equipment items in their shack than any other manufacturer, even if they don't want to admit it.  Hams like to criticize MFJ quality sometimes, but I think it's a result of MFJ being a "big little company" that runs on a shoestring budget to give us interesting products at good prices.  I doubt if Martin or any of his employees are rich, they're just making it work.
