yep, we all saw this coming, especially after the large manufacturers (YANKENCOM) discontinued some rigs and receivers... in some ways this is a good thing, as it will spur new designs, redundancy engineering for parts substitutions, etc.... the move to SDR architecture is also nice...

thru-hole PCBs are going the way of tubes?

anyhow, i got rid of all my old stuff (with the exception of a backlit HF-150), and updated the stable to the latest, most-popular models...

i enjoyed my TT gear, but sold them off as deficient in some way or another (size, weight, power draw, etc.)... i especially liked the 539 despite its limitations and boat-anchor jacks...

anyhow, it is great to see folks carrying on with TT gear... i wish them luck, but have moved on...

Translation: Thanks for buying Ten Tec products in the past. Sorry you are S.O.L. as there is NO Support.
However, in the future you will be able to buy more unsupported gear from us. Thanks for your money.

This is what happens when one country becomes the single source for most of the supply chain of an entire industry, in this case China for electronics, which is also bringing down many dependent industries other than just ham radio, such as cars and trucks, appliances, computers, cellphones, etc.

It is a crisis of our own making, as we pushed factories to locate there because we demanded purchased items to be as cheap as possible.  North American culture especially, has evolved into being all about getting a "good deal" and don't worry about the long-term effects of this mindset, just buy the cheapest thing you can, rather than the best one you can.  It's happening before our own eyes as we see the ham radio business go through the same gradual shift to Chinese manufacturers that other industries have already gone through, as more and more hams buy radios based on price alone.

And China is no doubt well aware of their new-found power to control the world's technology industries, should the need arise during some geopolitical events.

I used to buy a lot of TT gear. Had an entire Omni 6+ line with matching everything including auto tuner and Titan and Hercules Amps. Later on, I had an Orion II. Ever since Ten Tec sold out to Dishtronix, I have completely lost interest in them. They say they are open for business but behave like they bought the TT name just to run it into the ground and get a tax write off. Actions speak louder than words. Distronix business model for Ten Tec is the worst I have ever seen. I will never do business with Ten Tec again. I may even get rid of my 238C tuner now since I cannot get it repaired or parts for it should I need to. Palstar / Ameritron tuners should be around awhile longer. R.I.P. Ten Tec. You were a good company once upon a time.

Well, if you like Ten Tec gear you should check out the RGO ONE transceiver. A very nice modern take on the architecture 73 Geoff

TenTec made their money across a lot of stuff.

Their bread and butter was government orders.  Being the only made in America platform left gave them a lot of leeway with the 'Buy American' act in place.

They also made a KILLING supplying the CB amplifier builders with chassis years ago.  A lot of the amps they ran hhad cases from ten tec, so much so that one well known builder on the east coast would buy trailer loads of them at a time.

Ten Tec was purchased, I'm sure, for the government business they do.  That's where the money is.  And now they have to charge the government the same dollars and cents they sell to Joe Ham....  Which makes it not so profitable.

For years that's what kept Ten Tec going.  Government sales.

Dishop isn't dumb.  And I'm sure what he wrote there is true......  Getting the parts to repair items isn't easy currently.

And you still have to jpay rent on the building just to store existing inventory.

But as I see it, without government sales of the receivers, there would be zero incentive to have ten tec in the portfolio.

The original owner(s) got out when the gettin was good!

And I wouldn't put it past Dishop to show up in this thread.  He has a way of doing that when someone brings up Alpha or Ten Tec.

I have owned TenTec Triton's and Omni's through the years and still use my OMNI V daily.  I supported TT because the gear always worked good for me, and it was made in the USA.  Too bad that they cannot support their ham radio products any longer, but that is common with many businesses these days.  I do not begrudge them, but thank them for making my OMNI V that is still working today, talking to many
foreign radios. In fact, many of those older foreign radios are not supported by their manufacturers either.
I wish the best for TenTec in the future.

Yes, I read the very angry diatribe in rebuttal to thread complaining about TT service and the lack of new product.
Looks like too much time and effort was dedicated to fielding the calls from angry TT owners, tying up the Dishtronix phone lines?
Like they say "sh*t of get off the pot". He has finally decided to get off the pot. With the current supply and labor issues, he  had no choice.

The funeral committee can finally cheer and bury their dead. Funny how the changing business environment can kill even the best laid plans. (Or the worst if you're on the committee.)

As much as I had hoped and held off for one of the new improved Eagle transceivers, it appears the premature funeral committee was correct after all.
