MFJ-980 Tuner Questions
« on: February 11, 2022, 02:24:04 PM »

Hello.  I just found an MFJ-980 tuner for sale online, but I cannot find any information elsewhere about it.  I was hoping to find some reviews, the specs, and maybe some photos online, but came up with only the page in a 1980 MFJ catalog advertising it.

Does anyone know anything about this tuner’s capabilities and reliability?

Tnx es 73,

I had an MFJ-981 years ago and it was an excellent tuner. Very good construction. 500pf caps and ceramic switch for the 18-position inductor (many switched inductor tuners used a 12-position switch, the 18 position allows for finer tuning). It was the cheapest of the three 980,981,982. Just 2 caps and the inductor, no antenna switch or meter, but the exact same tuning components. You can't go wrong if it hasn't been abused and the price is right.
