POTA question
« on: February 12, 2022, 10:17:24 AM »

I find the "Data Refresh" to be annoying, does anyone know how to shut the damn thing off!! And yes, I set it to the 300 seconds setting, but I'd rather be in charge of when to do a refresh.....thanks in advance.

What I do is sort by frequency which solves this.  Once I work a station, I spot it and it disappears (select hide spots worked). New stations pop up, but only in frequency vs. a new spot which allows you to keep a better eye on things and not chase the spots.  The app is great and allows one to choose how the spots get displayed.

Did my first POTA activation tonight.  Did not mean to do it, I just went there to scope out the park, BUT since the rig is "mobile" I just used the mobile whip and worked 13 including one Park to Park..  All over the US and Canada. on 20 Meters. "Parks in the Dark".  It was fun.

Congrats James!! I'm an active chaser, too lazy to be an activator....well, some day. I'll watch the waterfall for your callsign.

I have been a chaser for a couple of months. But it was fun to manage pileups from the other end. Look for you.  73  James

Hey, that's pretty cool, James !!  Get ready to log a bunch when you go there to stay a while :-)  It might take a week or so for your activation to show up on the POTA site after you email your log.

It turns out I've worked you, Kent, and Ed on 20m CW in the last couple of months when I activate a park on Wednesdays.  Either K-1216 or K-0225, I alternate, they are both really good radio sites.  Usually  call CQ around 14.044 +/- from 1730-2030Z.

The wife and I activated a park again yesterday, and logged 84 callers in about an hour and 1/2. They came fast and furious.

My May 29th Activation still has not come thru and its been over a week. is that normal?  I realize this has to be done manually at this time by volunteers. I suppose the new self posting feature can't get here fast enough. I am sure looking forward to it when they get the beta testing done.

My May 29th Activation still has not come thru and its been over a week. is that normal?

From the FAQ on the POTA website: Q: How long should it take my log to process or for me to get an award?

A: Due to COVID-19 issues, please give a minimum of 1 month even before writing to a volunteer regional coordinator. Typically, it would be 2 weeks. Most of us have XYLs kids, full time jobs, etc.. so it’s hard sometimes to keep up, especially when sickness comes into play. Also, an important thing to remember, we are not going to have time to let you know if your logs are always good, but we will let you know if there is an issue with one. We receive thousands of logs.
After you have waited a month, you write to them and do not receive a response, then definitely send me an e-mail at w3aax@outlook.com and I will look into it. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

It can take a week or more for Zero District logs to be processed.  I'm not the one doing them, that's just my experience with my logs.

Just a note, I see your activation still isn't there, mine from 1 June isn't either.
