AppImage??
« on: February 13, 2022, 06:32:18 AM »

Got a question.  I've been using Linux Mint for 3 or 4 yrs now and can "sorta" get around fairly well.  I have installed programs from source code, etc.  My question is about the AppImage installation - it sure looks good to me, and the 4 programs I've installed using it - WOW!!  That's how it should be done.  I understand overall it increases the file size since the dependances that are shared by several programs are included in the AppImage file, thus taking more space than them being shared.  BUT - with the low cost of TB size SSDs these days it seems a small price to pay to have a single file that will run across many Linux platforms.

My question is really a couple of parts, are there any cons to this I'm not aware of?  AND - how long (if ever) will it take for this to be the de facto installation for programs?

Thanks for any info, I know there are some real "Linux gurus" on the site that have so much more knowledge than I have.
