Yaesu FT-857 2m ssb
« on: February 15, 2022, 07:56:07 PM »

Thought I would try 2m ssb tonight.Tuned to 144.200 usb and listened. Tried calling CQ. No signal output according to the wattmeter
Searched the manual for menu settings for 2m ssb, but nothing found.
Fm output is great, hf great, just the 2m ssb no output. No voice or whistle changes to the meter. Red transmit light comes on.
Antenna is 1.1 swr, coax is on the vhf so239 connecter. Probably something simple.

Are you sure about the mic you're using?  Maybe defective or lacking a connection somewhere?  Try using a different mic or mode.

So  you are getting correct power out on HF SSB and 2 meter FM, correct?

It looks like Menu 75 sets RF power out.  I would turn it to 2 meters, set it to SSB and go into the menus and see what Menu 75 is set at.  Set it to 100 if it isn't there already.  Since it is putting out full power on HF SSB the mic gain and microphone must be working fine.  2 meters in general must be ok if it is putting out full power on 2 meter FM.

Thanks for the advice. I had checked before and it was set at 50, which was the highest setting.

If it is set at 50 and you have it set to SSB mode, then it should be putting out full power, especially if it is putting out full power in FM mode.  Not sure what could make it put out 50 watts on FM but 0 on SSB on the same band, unless the SSB mic gain was turned down, but you said it is putting out full power on SSB on HF, correct?
