New Truck HF Mobile
« on: February 16, 2022, 07:06:27 AM »

Hi Folks,

The long and short is I have tried HF mobile With Dodge 2013 1500 Hemi , not much luck getting ride of the noises. Did all suggested to minimize the problem. Not my first mobile setup, so it's time to trade. Wonder if there is a  truck out there with in the last couple of years, people are having luck with as far as noise goes on HF Bands.

Thanks
Corey

I have a 2011 Toyota Tundra that had almost zero noise on my FT-857D.  I think the newer models would be very similar.

My 2018 Ram has ignition noise but the NB easily eliminates it.  Be aware that the anti lock brake system can get squirrely with 40 meters if you don't keep the RF out of the system.

Thanks for advice, I have tested a 21 Ram with the v6 with just pluging the hf radio into a acc outlet I am seeing S7 ignition noise and to your point the NB on the FTDX10 removes it, I think with bonding I hope to further reduce the noise with out the noise blanker. I am wondering if N5PNZ did any bonding to ground. Thanks VE1KCO, Corey

Oh yes.  Antenna mount to frame (I use stake pocket mounts), hood to body, exhaust to frame.  Have not done the doors yet.  Snap on ferrites on coax,  coax coil hidden in the body at the mount.  Positive lead is direct to battery, neg to dash frame.  The ignition noise is reduced slightly but still use the NB.
With all that my problem with the anti-lock brakes went away unless I get too far astray from the antenna tuning point.  In wet weather it still happens once in a great while
My truck is the Tradesman model, V6, 8 speed trans, no console.  Made a mount for the radios that sits on the hump against the center cushion.  Use the center seat belt to help secure it.
Good truck.  112k miles, never been back to the dealer except for a recall and some oil changes.  But soon I have to change the spark plugs.  That is a big 'pita' job to get the drivers side plugs.  Dealer charges $300+ down here.

update: Spend the day bonding the truck, did the following:
battery to frame
ignition computer to frame
both manifolds to frame
transmission to frame
transfer case to frame
Alternator to frame
both side of the hood
exhaust to frame 3 places
cab to frame
box to frame
tailgate to box
Done everything with 1 1/2 copper braid. Truck in the shop till Tuesday to have accessories installed, Should be able to test the radio then and post results.

Update: So I was able to reduce the noise down to a s4 With all the bonding I did , only thing left would be the doors. I can report that the Yaesu ftdx 10 can remove what is left for noise with the noise blanker. The ram was a 2021 3.6lt 6v.Now Let the mobile dx begin.

My 1998 1/2  Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel has no issues. No spark plugs is probably why.
