ARRL DX CW FEB. 19

The ARRL DX CW is this weekend from 02/19 at 0000Z to 2/20 at 2359Z. US and VE works DX only. DX works US and VE only.

I have always found the rules for this contest to be a bit bizarre.  Stations in the US can work Alaska and Hawaii, which are part of the US, but they cannot work Canada, which is a foreign country-usually DXing is seen as working foreign countries.  But they can work Sable Island and St. Paul Island, which are both parts of Canada, and they can work 4U1UN, which is in New York City, but they can't work 4U1WB which is in Washington, DC.

Somehow this all makes sense, I just haven't figured out how yet.

KH6 and KL7 are odd entities. In some contests they are DX, in others they are states and in the NA QSO Party they are grouped in with North America.

What defines a country is kind of an odd process even outside of ham radio, then you layer on the DXCC rules for what counts as a DXCC country and it is even odder. Not surprising that the additional layer of contest rules on top of that is even more odd!
