QRP transceiver with included USB soundcard interface.
« on: February 18, 2022, 10:56:33 AM »

I am interested in finding a quality small QRP SSB transceiver with an onboard  USB sound-card or Ethernet interface for digital modes.
Single band 20 meter or multiband capability is OK.
Not really interested in IC-705 or such type units.
Do you fellow have any recommendations?

Thanks

Check out the offerings from Stew over at Multus SDR https://www.multus-sdr.com/. He has a number of QRP SDR transceivers available. If you don't want to build anything he sells the Proficio fully built but you've got to figure out an enclosure, Stew can help with that though.

There is also the Hermes Lite 2 SDR that can be had from Makerfabs https://www.makerfabs.com/hermes-lite-2.html when it is in stock. It appears it is NOT currently in stock.

A third option is the QDX from Hans at QRP Labs. He will be releasing a third batch of the QDX kit sometime in the near future and it has been an extremely popular kit since it's initial release. Extreme popularity seems to be normal for Hans' offerings these days so if you want a QDX keep an eye on the QRP Labs page on groups.io for release information.

An mcHF (and various 918 clones) QRP transceiver uses its USB interface for both SDR IQ or audio input/output, as well as CAT control.

A Hermes Lite 2 QRP SDR transceiver doesn't even have front panel controls or any audio IO, instead depending on being connected via its ethernet port to a networked control computer (or tablet or iPhone or Raspberry Pi) running an SDR application.

Elad FDM Duo, but to me the cheapest alternative is a small external device such as the Digirig - please let us know what you know find and decide on!

Thanks for all your replies.

I like the looks of the QDX and the Hermes Lite.
I would order one of them today if they were available.

I happen to have a Hermes Lite 2 that I assembled a few months ago (radio, case, and filter board) but never put on the air. If you are interested shoot me an email, good on eHam messaging as well as at my QRZ email.

I sent you the money five days ago and haven't heard from you since.
What is up with that?
Are you going to send me the unit or not?

Kelby,
You sent money to the wrong PayPal address, after receiving nothing I followed up with you, you fixed it, I immediately acknowledged receipt of funds and informed you I would get the radio in the mail and send you the tracking number as soon as I had it. I shipped it out and immediately provided you with a tracking number. You then replied to that email seven hours later asking if I could give you a tracking number. I informed you it had been in the previous email I had sent you seven hours earlier. I have not received anything from you since then.

I mailed it over the weekend the USPS tracking shows it was received yesterday and it is due to be delivered Friday.

I am not a retired ham with nothing to do but chase DX and run back and forth to the post office. I have a full-time job, a part-time job, two young kids with homework and activities to manage, a police sergeant wife whose crazy schedule puts me on full house duty seven days a week, volunteer responsibilities, and plenty of other things that require my attention. YOU are the one who was looking for a certain type radio at a time when things are hard to find and inflation is driving the prices of them even higher. I am the guy who came through for you with exactly what you were looking for at a bargain price. I highly doubt you had anyone else offering you such a deal and I highly doubt many people would have been as gracious as I was during our email exchanges.

I guess that's what I get for trying to help a guy out  :o

Please excuse me for my nervous impatience.
I sent you the money on Feb 22 and you acknowledged it.
I assumed you would ship it out the next day.
I emailed you to ask what was happening on Feb 26.
I received your email on Feb 27 that you had shipped the unit.
That was five days without any communication from you.
I didn't see the tracking number in the email and that is why I inquired.
Your life situation and busy schedule was unknown to me.
An explanation from you that you could not ship it till the weekend would have been helpful.
Maybe you can understand my concern and frustration.
I am sorry you took offense to my inquiry of the status.
